Erin Coates-Metallic Water

$18,000.00

Made of bronze, porcelain and gold leaf, Metallic Water speculates on a slow and invisible transformation of materials. The suspended ribcage is based on the skeleton of the Pacific Bottlenose dolphin, which can be found in the waterways of Boorloo Perth. As long living apex predators, they are prone to the accumulation of heavy metals in their bones. Coates’ work is informed by marine biology, local histories and her experiences freediving in the ocean and river. Often working collaboratively and across disciplines, Coates created the bronze pieces in Metallic Water to also act as musical instruments for a sound work called Alluvial Gold, composed by Stuart James and performed by percussionist Louise Devenish.
